All those words, they seem to slip away

For my fourth installment of Hack’s Back Pages Lyrics Quiz, I thought I’d take a different tack.

images-269First, we’re going to focus on lyrics from songs written by just one artist — in this case, The Beatles.  The band’s catalog is still pretty much the most recognizable musically, and I dare say lyrically as well.

Second, I’ve divided three dozen lyrics into three categories — easy, intermediate and difficult.  You can decide what level challenge to attempt, or you can try all three.

Grab a pencil and paper and jot down your answers as you proceed.  When you’re done, simply scroll down to find the correct answers.  I’d love to hear how you did!

It’s a good mental exercise to test your memory bank now and then, and recalling rock music lyrics is a great place to start.  Enjoy!

This was fun, but I am embarrassed that I did so bad.

No worries! It should just give you motivation to listen to this astounding catalog of music more often!

I liked what you did so much that I just wrote a post titled Dead 25 Years that commemorates the death of Jerry Garcia for this Sunday. I have 41 song lyrics broken down into three categories just like you did, but this will be a lot harder as most people don’t know the Grateful Dead like they know the Beatles.

I would not do very well on a Dead lyrics quiz… Maybe the “easy” section!

I’m finding that maybe I went too difficult on the final 12 songs. Nobody got more than two of those, so far. Be proud of 16. That’s pretty decent.
