Bruce Hackett is a seasoned writer with an insane passion for rock music.  Born in the ’50s, raised on ’60s and ’70s classic rock, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of much of the music from that era and into the ’80s.  He was a reviewer of hundreds of concerts and albums for newspapers in his native Northeast Ohio.  He currently resides in Santa Monica, California.

    Mr. Hackett,

    Nice blog, however, your comment about the lyric to THIS GIRL IS A WOMAN NOW is ill-informed. My father was the late Victor Millrose (composer) and he made it clear to me that there was nothing “creepy” about this lyric as it was about a child’s parents hedging that their daughter had lost her virginity…and they were right. It’s funny how often I read a man’s take on this lyric as creepy and a woman’s take on it as beautiful. We hear what we hear.

      Thanks for writing, Peter. Glad to get another point of view, in this case from an “insider” who knows more about the songwriter’s intent. But you’re right — songs are always open to interpretation, and we hear what we hear…
